What is the New America School’s mission?

The mission of The New America School is to empower new immigrants, English language learners, and academically underserved students with the educational tools and support they need to maximize their potential, succeed and live the American dream.

Where are the New America Schools located?

New America schools are located in diverse communities where the need is greatest. We have three campuses in the metro Denver area: The NAS-Lowry campus, located in the Lowry Field neighborhood of Denver;  the NAS-Lakewood campus, located in Lakewood, Colorado approximately one mile from the Sloans Lake neighborhood of Denver; and the NAS-Thornton campus, located on 89th and Washington in Thornton.

Who does the New America School serve?

New America School (NAS) is a system of fully accredited public charter high schools dedicated to serving English Language Learners, non-traditional students, and traditional students seeking a more personal atmosphere that fits their learning needs.  Students ages 14-21 are welcome.

How much does it cost to attend the New America School?

The New America Schools are public charter high schools.  Tuition is free!

When are classes held?

NAS offers a full class schedule day and night, 8 a.m.-10 p.m., at all our campuses.

Classes are scheduled four days per week, Monday – Thursday to accommodate working students and young parents.

How do I become a student at the New America School?

Becoming a student at NAS is easy! The best time to enroll is during formal registration, which begins in August of each year, so you can start classes and begin learning right away.

However, you can sign up and begin classes immediately at any time August-October. After that, you can still sign up, but you will be admitted when a new quarter begins. Check with the school secretary for full details.

What documents are required to register?

  • Proof of identification (one of the following): Valid Colorado Driver’s License, Birth Certificate, Consular ID Card, or I-94.
  • Proof of Colorado residency: Utility bill, cellular phone bill, etc.
  • Proof of  immunization (If you don’t have an immunization card we can provide this for you).
  • Transcripts from former high school.

Who are the New America School’s founders?

The New America School was founded in 2004 by philanthropist and educational activist Jared Polis, along with several leaders in the metro Denver community: Alby Segal, Allied Jewish Federation; Rick Garcia, Colorado Statewide Parent Coalition; Susan Lythgoe, The Learning Source for Adults and Families; Harry Chan, Jamaican Elementary School; Chris Romer, State Senator; Lisa Finkelstein, Jared Polis Foundation currently with FullCircle Fund; Michael Huttner, Progress NOW; Katie Williams.
